For me this bamboo is too young to say what this bamboo is, the shoot leaves do not look correct for Decora - the color is similar, the shape is not so much so. I have had Phy viridis shoots, Phy virella & Phy rubromarginata shoots look the same as this.

For me the structure/coloration/markings on the culm leaf, the look of the new culms, and the zig zag all say Phy nuda...perhaps not...I would bet money on this though!

Some of the Pleioblastus have the sulcus as well.

Can it be a timber Pleioblastus such as Pl juxianensis? In the US I have seen this bamboo to grow to 10 meters with no low branches, I can check mine to see if yes 2 branches at the node and if it too has a sulcus as some Pleioblastus do. I think not, I checked mine and it has 3-4 branches at each n...

Rhum, I think I misunderstood, I did not know you were trying to identify a specific plant for someone, I thought that you were saying the bamboo Rufa is not Dracocephala.

It is my understanding that what was called F dracocephala is now named F apicirubens and that Rufa is the 'real' F dracocephala but people add the 'Rufa' to this name merely to connect...

Yes, thank you, I had forgotten this photo so it surprised me to see it here, the vivax bamboos do not hold up well to cold here so I do not think of them often.
