Phyllostachys makinoi looks good , can you Tell me more about it?
Phyllostachys makinoi is a very nice green bamboo, the new culms are very blue for many weeks, the most blue of any bamboo I can grow here. It can endure winter temperatures to -18C where the leaves begin to burn and perhaps -20C when the culms become damaged. The culms are very sturdy, almost solid at the lower part, and it is very vertical and strong, does not lean over in wind. It needs very warm summer temperatures to grow well and is quite slow to become larger but after many years it may become 5cm-7cm in diameter by 10-12 meters tall for me it is only about 2,5cm by 3 meters after 7-8 years. I think that in climates like Rome it would do very well Philippe!
I can try to post more shoot photos, these were the more difficult bamboos to know from the shoot pictures, I have easier ones I can also try soon if the forum members wish for more.
